Watchers

I am currently in Singapore as an artist-in-residence.
I've been going to several art shows in Singapore, which has allowed me to begin immersing myself in the art scene here. Although Singapore is known as a financial center, it has a very vibrant and growing art scene as well.  On my first week here, I went to a group show in TAKSU Gallery showcasing work by seven artists from the Philippines.
I went to Art Seasons Gallery and saw their new group show, which had some truly spectacular work by Asian artists.  There were two paintings by Jung Jae Ho capturing contemporary cityscapes with unexpected bursts of color. Lee Yong-Deok's work played with perspective and I would place it in a category of sculptural paintings. As I walked through the space, his paintings would change perspective and "move". Cao Jingping's modern take on Chinese painting was detailed, monochromatic, and emotionally powerful. The first piece I saw as I walked into the gallery was Zheng Lu's stainless steel installation, Impression of Hongren's Landscape. I also got to see the work of and meet Donna Ong - she's an amazing person and artist, definitely check out her website!

Check out photos from these shows on my website: [link]

Cheers,
- Heidi

United States
Heidi Celeghin is a Brazilian artist currently teaching at the Glassell Junior School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. She divides her time between Houston and Manhattan.

Celeghin has been involved in the visual arts since her childhood and began her art education at the Glassell Junior School, where she studied for ten years. She continued to pursue art at Cornell University, studying under sculptors Todd McGrain, Michael Ashkin, and Douglas Ross, and computer graphics pioneer Don Greenberg. Beyond Cornell, Celeghin took several art courses to gain more experience. During the summers of 2007 and 2008, she attended the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, where she was taught by Maestro John Angel and Martinho Correia. Both classes significantly influenced her growth as a painter and provided her with a historically-informed approach to painting. In the summer of 2009, Celeghin attended two courses at the School of Visual Arts in NYC taught by Stanley Martucci and Matthew Archambault.

Celeghin continues to use her academic interests to fuel her creative process. Her knowledge of literature and aesthetic theory constantly informs her artistic process, allowing her to create work that pushes the boundaries of representational art.

Celeghin’s international background and experiences also influence her art practice. In addition to having lived in Brazil, Venezuela, and the United States, she has traveled extensively around Europe and has visited Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan.
